Our Pastors

GrantSenior Pastor Grant Powell is a third-generation Church of God pastor. He is a native Floridian who graduated from Anderson University in Indiana in 1980, and from the Anderson School of Theology in 1985 with his Minister of Divinity degree. He married Jennifer, also a graduate of Anderson University, and moved to Vero Beach, Florida in 1985. Pastor Grant served as the Minister of Education at the First Church of God in Vero Beach for 20 years. During that time, he completed his Doctor of Education degree from Nova Southeastern, and founded a Principle-Approach® Christian school, Master’s Academy, where he served as Headmaster for 15 years and where Jennifer served as an instructor.
Grant and Jennifer enjoy biking, kayaking, fishing, and enjoying God’s gift of nature on the beautiful Emerald Coast! They spend their free time meeting neighbors, enjoying local events, and supporting the Panama City community.
Pastor Grant’s passion is discipleship! This explains why he loves II Timothy 2:2 which says, “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses, entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.” Pastor Grant and Jennifer have two adult sons, Joshua and Jacob, who are both musicians and attended Anderson University.

Associate Pastor Rick Braun is originally from Minnesota but his family fled the frozen tundra for sunny Florida when he was 6 years old so he is nearly a native! He married his high school sweetheart Cindy in 1980 and moved to Panama City while serving in the Coast Guard. He was licensed in the Southern Baptist faith earlier in his ministry journey serving as youth pastor and discipleship director for local churches in Panama City. He met Pastor Powell through a mutual friend and has been happily serving at the Church of God ever since that divine appointment. Rick entered the credential program through the Church of God soon after joining the church in Panama City and completed the three years of training in the fall of 2017. He was ordained at the state meeting in October of 2017 in Orlando. Along with leading the Sunday morning service from time to time, Rick also serves as the Small Group Director and leads a small group discipleship class.

Pastor Rick’s passion is outreach to the motorcycle community, a normally ignored segment of the population. He is currently serving as President of the local Christian Motorcyclists Association and enjoys taking the Gospel to the highway. He is still in awe about how much fun serving God can be, especially when you’re able to make an impact on the kingdom on Earth. Rick and Cindy have two adult daughters, Deanna and Heather, and four fabulous grandchildren, Addison, Madilyn, Chandler and Emerson. Rick and Cindy say hanging out with them is heaven on earth!
